Nutanix Brings Agentic AI Automation to Hybrid Multi-Cloud Environments
The launch of an open-source MCP server bridges the gap between intelligent assistants and core infrastructure, shifting cloud management from recommendations to autonomous action.
Nutanix is taking another step towards AI-driven cloud management with the launch of an open-source Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for its Nutanix Cloud Platform. The new capability is designed to let enterprises use AI assistants and agents to automate infrastructure operations through natural-language commands while retaining existing security and governance controls.
Bridging AI Tools and Core Infrastructure
The MCP server acts as a secure bridge between AI tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code and Cursor and the Nutanix Cloud Platform. Through the Prism v4 API, users can translate plain-language instructions into infrastructure actions, making routine cloud management tasks easier to execute across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
Governance & Security
Security remains a central part of the approach. Nutanix has built in features such as role-based access controls, API throttling, metering, detailed auditing and asynchronous task management. These safeguards are designed to ensure that AI agents operate only within authorised boundaries while giving IT teams visibility into what actions are being performed and by which agent.
Developer Velocity
The platform also has benefits for developers. AI coding assistants can access system blueprints and use them to generate infrastructure scripts in formats and languages including Python, Go, Java, JavaScript, PowerShell, REST and JSON. This could reduce the effort involved in creating and managing infrastructure automation.
The move reflects a wider change in enterprise cloud operations. As organisations adopt agentic AI, the focus is shifting from AI simply providing recommendations to AI actively carrying out operational tasks. Nutanix is positioning its MCP server to support that transition while keeping human oversight, security and governance at the centre.
